The annual Disability Resources Incorporated Sporting Clays Classic
wrapped up today here at Abilene Clay Sports. Nearly 100 shooters
took part in this year's event, with Abilene's own Frank Sanchez
taking top honors. An elegant upscale sponsors' reception started things off
on Friday evening. This year's event featured a prize drawing giving
a lucky winner a customized clay cart, and trailer, as well as two
performances by exhibition shooter and world record holder John Cloherty from Los Angeles, California. John holds the record for
shooting and breaking 4451 clay targets in one hour. He did it from
the hip using 20 Benelli shotguns, and over 50 "helpers". His
performance on Friday and Saturday was amazing, and being the true
showman, signed autographs as long as the spectators wanted to
wait in line.
Special thanks to ACS members Don Dunn, Richard
Greenawalt, Robert Tennison, Bob Newberry, Todd Andjulis, Konrad
Weiss, Reid Kyker, Jody Bowers, Lex Ellinger, and Cade Pursely, as
well as over 50 volunteers from DRI for making the event go
smoothly. [Steve Ellinger - President, Abilene Clay Sports]
